What is the iSDIO (Wireless LAN SD) standard?

The iSDIO (intelligent SDIO) standard, branded to consumers as the Wireless LAN SD standard, was developed to enable SD memory cards to communicate with other IEEE 802.11(a/b/g/n) equipped devices, home networking and cloud computing services. Wireless LAN SD memory cards are the standard’s first target application to integrate wireless LAN (local area networks), flash memory and MPU modules into one SD memory card. The Wireless LAN SD standard, which will be available to Association members for product development once it is completed, makes SD memory cards intelligent enough to execute complicated communication tasks from simple host instructions.

Consumers can transfer pictures and video wirelessly from most existing cameras and video cameras with Wireless LAN SD:

  • Peer-to-peer transfer between two cameras
  • Upload photos to cloud services
  • Home networking with smart phone, tablet PC and TV
